Orioles Fall to Rangers; Locked in Tie for First in AL East

In the final game of an important three-game series between the AL East-leading Baltimore Orioles and the AL West-leading Texas Rangers, it was the Rangers that were able to salvage the final game of the series, despite dropping the first two to the O’s.

The Rangers’ new acquisition, Jonathan Lucroy hit his first homer with Texas, and the Rangers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 5-3, to avoid the three-game sweep. Carlos Beltran, another deadline acquisition, notched two hits and an RBI. Wade Miley made his first start for the Orioles, and gave up four runs in five innings.

Rangers’ starter A.J. Griffin pitched well, but ran into some issues allowing three solo homers in 5 1/3 innings. Ian Desmond also knocked in two runs for Texas.

Orioles fans grew a little weary of their teams’ offensive struggles early in the contest, as A.J. Griffin was getting the better of the O’s hitters, despite the team having faced Rangers’ aces Yu Darvish and Cole Hamels earlier in the series with success. Meanwhile, Rangers fans wanted more out of their hitters against Wade Miley, as they had a sense that their early run total would not be enough against the formidable Orioles offense.

For a look at some of the best tweets from both sides throughout the game, here’s a sample of what Social Delta pulled:
