Serena, Venus Williams Advance to Wimbledon Semi-Finals

Venus Williams made it throughout to her first Wimbledon semi-finals since 2009. Less than two hours later, Serena joined her.

On Tuesday at the All England Club in London where the annual Wimbledon tournament is held, the Williams sisters dominated again on their way to the semi-finals. For Serena, this was nothing new, but for Venus it was special.

“I love playing the game,” said Williams. “When you’re winning matches it makes it that much sweeter.”

Venus was doing just that, winning her match against Yaroslava Shvedova 7-6, 6-2.


As Venus had defeated her opponent, sister Serena was just about finished warmups and about to begin her match on the main court against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. She defeated the Russian 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the semis. Venus will go on to face Angelique Kerber, while Serena will take on Elena Vesnina, who reached her first Grand Slam semi-final by knocking off Dominika Cibulkova.

All-around it was a great day of quarter-final action from Wimbledon. However, it was the Williams sisters matches that garnered the most attention on social media. Take a look at the graph from Social Delta:

On Wednesday we look forward to the Men’s Quarterfinals, especially the performances from the highly-ranked Andy Murray and Roger Federer.
