A Speedy OT Goal Puts Penguins Ahead 2-0

Conor Sheary’s quick OT goal gave the Penguins a 2-0 lead over the San Jose Sharks in Game 2 of the 2016 Stanley Cup Finals.

The Penguins seem to be rolling on their way to another Stanley Cup. After sending the Lightning back to Tampa Bay, The Penguins brought the same ferocity to the Sharks. In the game 1, they edged out San Jose late in the 3rd, but this one took overtime. You wouldn’t have guessed that it watching the first two periods. The Penguins outshot the Sharks the entire game. The tides turned in the second period however. Phil Kessel, who has proved to be a scoring MACHINE during these playoffs, capitalized on a turnover by San Jose, and broke the 0-0 tie. Some people really loved his play-making ability, but others notched it up to a terrible play by the Sharks.

Good play or not, the Pens went up 1-0, but continued to search for an insurance goal. Too bad the Sharks we’re chomping at the bit to get their first goal of the game. Even though there were plenty of shots that hit the crossbar, the Sharks defended the net and managed to score a goal that tied the game with four minutes left.

This game was going to need overtime. Sharks and Penguins fans alike were on the edge of their seats, but only for about three minutes. Sheary put one past Jones at the top shelf to give the Penguins the win.

With the Pens ahead 2 games, they head to San Jose, hoping to capture a commanding lead in the series. The Sharks are looking to put up a fight though. Last series, the Penguins were down 2-0, but managed to comeback and win the series. Can San Jose muster the same strength the Penguins did? Or will they go down 3-0. Few teams have been able to dig themselves out of that large of a hole, and it will be doubly difficult in the Finals, against one of the best teams in hockey.
